The Andhra Pradesh government has declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of four individuals who lost their lives after consuming adulterated milk in Rajahmundry. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, addressing the Legislative Assembly, also stated that the government would cover the medical expenses of those receiving treatment. The affected individuals exhibited symptoms like vomiting, stomach pain, and dialysis issues, with clinical tests revealing elevated levels of urea and serum creatinine in their blood.
Terming the incident as tragic, the Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The milk in question was supplied by Varalakshmi Milk Dairy in Narasapuram village, affecting 106 families in Rajahmundry. Officials confirmed that the victims fell ill after consuming milk from this dairy, resulting in four fatalities and ten individuals requiring medical attention, two of whom are on ventilators. The deceased individuals’ ages ranged from 58 to over 70 years.
Blood samples from the affected individuals have been sent for testing to labs in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, with the dairy manager, Addala Ganeswara Rao, detained and under interrogation by the police. The Chief Minister emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards adulteration for monetary gain, promising strict action post the investigation. He warned that the government would not overlook any such activities causing harm to the public in the state.
Following reports of locals falling ill and fatalities due to adulterated milk consumption in Rajahmundry, Chief Minister Naidu conducted a review meeting with district officials, emphasizing the need for top-notch medical care for the victims. Samples have been collected from affected families, and senior officials from relevant departments have been dispatched to monitor the situation in Rajahmundry.
