Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted permission to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to interrogate the suspended SHO of Krishna Lanka Police Station, S.S.V.V. Nagaraju, in connection with the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna. The court ruling permits the SIT to question Nagaraju for eight days starting from July 9.
The SIT had sought relaxation of the conditions set by a lower court for placing the accused in police custody. Earlier, the Second Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Vijayawada had allowed police custody of Nagaraju until July 10, with the provision for questioning him at Rajamahendravaram Central Jail.
During the High Court proceedings, the Public Prosecutor argued that the existing conditions could impede the investigation process. The prosecutor highlighted the necessity of custodial interrogation for collecting physical evidence and reconstructing the crime scene related to Sai Krishna’s disappearance.
Sai Krishna, who went missing after being detained by the police on May 6, was allegedly subjected to fatal assault in custody according to his family. The SIT, under the leadership of Inspector General M. Ravi Prakash, is investigating allegations of wrongful confinement, murder, and tampering with evidence against the suspended Circle Inspector of Krishna Lanka police station.
