The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, under the leadership of Council Chairman K. Moshen Raju, declined the resignation of Jayamangala Venkataramana, a Member of Legislative Council (MLC). Venkataramana had tendered his resignation in November 2024 and had also announced his departure from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). In response to the delay in accepting his resignation, Venkataramana had sought intervention from the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The High Court instructed the Council Chairman to promptly address the resignation matter and make a decision within a specified timeframe. Following a directive from the High Court on November 27, 2025, Council Chairman Moshen Raju was mandated to conclude the inquiry into the resignation and reach a decision within four weeks. The High Court criticized the prolonged delay in decision-making by the Council Chairman, labeling it as “illegal, arbitrary, and an abuse of the process.”
Council Chairman Moshen Raju based his rejection of the resignation on the grounds of the unsatisfactory nature of the response provided by Venkataramana to the notice. Venkataramana, who had been elected to the Legislative Council on a YSRCP ticket in 2023, resigned and joined the Jana Sena Party led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on November 23, 2024. Additionally, the resignations of five other MLCs, who were elected on a YSRCP ticket but resigned following the party’s loss of power in 2024, were pending with the Council Chairman.
