Andhra Pradesh Police apprehended three young individuals in Vijayawada over alleged connections to terror organizations. The arrested individuals, Mohammad Rahamatullah Sharif, 23, Md. Danish, 27, and Mirza Sohail Baig, 23, are accused of promoting extremist views on social media. They are believed to be associated with ISIS and AQIS and have purportedly established ‘Al Malik Islamic Youth’ to radicalize young people.
The Counter-Intelligence Cell nabbed the suspects near their homes in Wynchipeta and carried out searches, confiscating electronic devices and incriminating materials. Following their arrest, the trio appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, where they were remanded to judicial custody until April 6 before being transferred to Vijayawada Central Prison.
During the court proceedings, the judge inquired if the accused had legal representation. Upon learning that they did not have a lawyer, the judge requested written confirmation. The individuals face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Information Technology Act at Vijayawada Two Town Police Station.
The accused allegedly maintained contact with handlers in Pakistan and utilized social media platforms like Instagram and Telegram to influence and radicalize young individuals for potential terrorist activities. The police initiated the operation after monitoring online radical content and receiving credible information about the suspects receiving funds from Pakistan to recruit and engage in terrorist acts.
