Former India captain Anil Kumble suggested that veteran player MS Dhoni might not play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) despite his hard work to regain full fitness. Kumble highlighted CSK’s preference for maintaining a successful team combination without many changes, emphasizing their belief in continuity and player support. Although Dhoni has been diligently training to recover match fitness, Kumble indicated that he may opt to delay his return to ensure team balance and momentum remain undisturbed.
Kumble mentioned that Dhoni has been actively participating in batting and wicketkeeping practice sessions, a departure from his usual routine, showcasing his dedication to returning to peak form. However, even if Dhoni achieves the required fitness levels, Kumble believes he might choose not to play immediately to avoid disrupting the team’s winning streak and the effective player combination that has contributed to their success. Dhoni sustained a knee injury before the IPL 2026 season and has not featured in any matches for CSK in the current campaign.
CSK has shown a strong resurgence in the IPL 2026 season after a slow start, winning three of their last four matches. Positioned sixth in the points table with 10 points from 10 games, they have the opportunity to secure a playoff spot by winning at least three of their remaining four matches.
