Indian player Ankita Raina displayed an impressive performance by defeating Akanksha Nitture in straight sets on the first day of the 2026 Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series at Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA). Other winners of the day included Kristina Sidorova, Anastasia Kulikova, Zuzanna Pawlikowska, Misaki Matsuda, Nicole Fossa Huergo, Peangtarn Plipuech, and Yasmine Kabbaj.

The day commenced with Russia’s Kristina Sidorova overpowering Zeel Desai with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, advancing to the next qualifying round. Sidorova’s assertive play, particularly her cross-court shots, kept Desai off balance throughout the match.

In another match on Court 1, Finland’s Anastasia Kulikova dominated Naoko Eto, securing a comfortable win with identical 6-0 sets. Kulikova’s strong serve led to an impressive 90% first-serve win rate, showcasing her expertise on hard courts.

Local talent Parthsarthi Aru Mundhe, aged 15, put up a spirited fight against third seed Zuzzana Pawlikowska in the Qualifier. Despite narrowly winning the first set, Mundhe couldn’t maintain her momentum, eventually losing 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to the Polish player.

Matsuda Misaki, the fifth seed, faced India’s Saumya Vig and emerged victorious with a precise performance, winning 6-0, 6-1. Misaki’s strategic play at the baseline, coupled with timely net approaches, disrupted Saumya’s rhythm effectively.

Argentinian player Nicole Fossa Huergo outclassed Hiroko Kuwata in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1, moving closer to securing a spot in the Main Draw with a commanding display.

Thai player Peangtarn Plipuech defeated Yaroslava Bartashevich in a closely contested match, finishing 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, advancing towards Main Draw qualification.

Second seed Yasmine Kabbaj triumphed over Sonal Patil on Centre Court with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Ankita Raina continued her winning streak by defeating Maharashtra’s Akanksha Nitture in straight sets, showcasing her skills with well-executed cross-court shots and strategic gameplay.
