Reigning champion Anna Muzychuk is gearing up to defend her Norway Chess Women’s title and potentially secure a consecutive victory. Muzychuk, a three-time world champion in fast chess, has been a prominent figure in the competition since its inception in 2024.
Having clinched the Women’s World Rapid Championship in 2016 and the Women’s World Blitz Championship twice, in 2014 and 2016, Muzychuk stands out as a formidable player. She has also reached the finals of the Women’s World Championship and is among the six women in chess history to exceed a rating of 2600.
Expressing her anticipation for the upcoming edition, Muzychuk described Norway Chess as a special event that blends a prestigious tournament with enjoyable activities. Her presence at the tournament has been consistent, with her securing the runner-up position in 2024 and claiming the title in 2025, solidifying her status as a top contender.
In her victory speech in 2025, Muzychuk highlighted the importance of Norway Chess Women for female players and advocated for its continuation, emphasizing its significance for women’s chess. With Muzychuk’s return as the defending champion, the tournament is poised for another exciting chapter in women’s chess history.

Norway Chess Women, introduced in 2024 as the world’s first fully inclusive super tournament for women in chess, has significantly advanced gender equality in professional chess and is now a regular fixture on the international calendar.
The stage is set for another thrilling edition of Norway Chess Women with Anna Muzychuk back to defend her title. The tournament, known for bringing together top male and female players, will take place from May 25 to June 5 at Deichman Bjørvika in Oslo.
