The US-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic has successfully secured $65 billion in its Series H funding round, elevating its post-money valuation to $965 billion, surpassing its competitor OpenAI. The funding was primarily led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with additional co-leaders including Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN.
Anthropic’s AI assistant Claude has seen a rapid adoption rate among global enterprises, with its annualized revenue run rate exceeding $47 billion. This significant capital injection will be channeled towards enhancing safety and interpretability research, expanding computing capabilities, and scaling products and partnerships to meet the escalating demand for AI services.
Krishna Rao, the Chief Financial Officer at Anthropic, emphasized the critical role of Claude in catering to the company’s expanding customer base. The funding will enable Anthropic to address the surging demand, maintain its research edge, and broaden Claude’s accessibility in workplaces worldwide.
Enterprises from various sectors are increasingly integrating Claude into their core operations, utilizing the platform for both intricate workflows and routine productivity tasks. Moreover, the funding round includes $15 billion from previously committed investments by hyperscalers, with Amazon contributing $5 billion.
Strategic collaborations with key infrastructure players like Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix have been reinforced to meet the escalating needs for memory, storage, and computing capabilities. Anthropic has recently expanded its compute capacity through agreements with Amazon, Google, and Broadcom for enhanced TPU capacity, along with securing GPU infrastructure access via SpaceX’s Colossus platforms.
