In a significant move against drug activities, the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District, Delhi Police apprehended a drug peddler with 1.957 kg of cannabis. The arrest was made based on specific information and sustained field intelligence efforts.
This operation underscores the ongoing endeavors of the police to combat drug proliferation at the local level. A case has been filed under the NDPS Act following the arrest, and the suspect is in police custody for further investigation to uncover his associates and the supply chain.
A dedicated team from AATS/East District, led by Inspector Pawan Yadav, has been actively monitoring drug trafficking concerns. The team, including SI Vikram Singh, SI Sandeep Singh, ASI Rajeev Kumar, and Head Constables Ashwani, Krishan, and Vikrant, has been vigilant in surveillance and area control duties.
Acting on specific intelligence received on April 27, the team swiftly responded to reports of drug selling near Goshala Road, Subzi Mandi, Gazipur. They identified a suspicious individual during the operation, who tried to escape upon seeing the police but was apprehended after a pursuit. Subsequently, a search led to the discovery of nearly 2kg of cannabis in his possession.
The arrested individual, identified as Neeraj Kumar (24), hails from Bihar and confessed to his involvement in local drug distribution to support his addiction and make money. He is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain his criminal history and unravel the drug network connections.
