In a significant development in the fight against drugs, the Anti-Narcotics Squad of Delhi Police’s East District successfully dismantled an interstate narcotics supply chain. They apprehended a key supplier from Odisha involved in trafficking ganja to Delhi-NCR. Police seized around 22.5 kg of ganja, considered a commercial quantity under the NDPS Act, along with a vehicle used for transporting the contraband.
The operation is part of Delhi Police’s stringent stance against drugs and their broader initiative to combat substance abuse, aiming to foster a drug-free society. A specialized team from the Anti-Narcotics Squad, led by ACP Pawan Kumar, conducted the operation with the support of senior officers and dedicated personnel. The team focused on gathering intelligence through local informers and human networks to crack down on drug trafficking.
Following specific information received on June 3, the Anti-Narcotics Squad intercepted a suspect named Sonu Kumar near Ghazipur, Delhi, who was transporting a large quantity of ganja in his car. Sonu Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad, was found with 22.5 kg of ganja in his possession. Subsequently, a case was registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to trace the primary source of the narcotics supply chain.
During interrogation, Sonu Kumar disclosed that he sourced the ganja from Deba Mandi, a resident of Malkangiri district in Odisha, near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border. Investigators discovered that Deba Mandi had gone into hiding after Sonu’s arrest, leading to a challenging operation to apprehend him. The police team successfully tracked and arrested Deba Mandi near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, bringing him to Delhi for further legal proceedings.
