The anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, known as ‘Operation Sheruwali’, has reached its sixth day with a renewed offensive against terrorist hideouts. The operation targets three Pakistani terrorists, including two high-profile individuals named Hamza and Iliyas Fauzi, believed to be trapped in the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan forests. Joint forces, including the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary units, are intensifying efforts to eliminate the terrorists in the cordoned-off area.
Thursday’s assault follows a comprehensive review by Lt General Pratik Sharma, the GOC-in-C of Northern Command, overseeing the ongoing operation. The objective of the fresh assault is to further shrink the cordon and root out the terrorists hiding in the region. Firing and MGL assaults have been deployed, resulting in visible impacts on the targeted locations within the forested areas. Security forces are diligently tracking the suspected movements of the terrorists, aided by helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs.
The operation was initiated after security forces discovered blood stains, presumed to be from fleeing terrorists, on Monday. Subsequent to the detection of these traces, a hideout was uncovered following a brief exchange of fire. Reinforcements have been dispatched to the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan forests, with stringent security measures in place, including heightened vehicle checks on access roads. The encounter with the terrorists began on Saturday when a joint team launched the operation based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to an exchange of fire and ongoing extensive searches in the forested area.
