Welcoming the approval of the 117.7 km Kanpur–Kabrai access-controlled greenfield highway, senior traders believe it will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and alleviate traffic congestion. The project, sanctioned by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, will be a four-lane access-controlled corridor with provisions for future expansion to six lanes. It is a crucial part of the Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor under the National Highways Programme.
President of Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal in Uttar Pradesh, Gyanesh Mishra, highlighted the highway’s potential in saving time and improving transportation efficiency for traders. He emphasized the economic benefits that will arise from better connectivity between Kanpur and Kabrai, facilitating smoother movement of goods and fostering economic growth in the region.
Ravi Shankar Mishra, President of Kanpur Transport Association, expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for approving the project, emphasizing its significance for businesses reliant on transportation of materials like crushed stone and river sand. However, he noted the delays in approval that had led to losses and safety concerns due to the current road’s accident-prone nature.
Chairman of Kanpur Industrial Development Co-operative Estate Ltd., Vijay Kapoor, highlighted the highway’s potential to reduce travel time to neighboring Madhya Pradesh, fostering industrial growth, creating job opportunities, and contributing to national development. He urged swift action on the project to realize these benefits at the earliest.
Former President of Indian Industries Association, Sunil Vaish, echoed the sentiment that the highway would be instrumental in industrial development by improving connectivity to key regions. He emphasized that the project would not only ease traffic congestion but also enhance the movement of industrial goods, connecting Kanpur to states like Maharashtra and other western regions.
