New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, along with Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and BJP President Nitin Nabin, on Sunday paid tributes to Pingali Venkayya, who conceptualised the design of India’s national flag, on his birth anniversary.
The Vice President referred to Venkayya as an “eminent freedom fighter, a true Gandhian and the architect of India’s National Flag” who left an “indelible mark on the nation’s history”.
Taking to X, Radhakrishnan said: “Humble tributes to Shri Pingali Venkayya Ji on his birth anniversary. As the Tricolour continues to unite every Indian with pride, we remember his selfless service and enduring legacy with deep respect.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tributes to Pingali Venkayya, while mentioning that the latter made an “immortal contribution” to designing the ‘Tiranga’, the National Flag, which flutters high as the “symbol of our pride and aspirations”.
“His role in the independence movement and development of different streams of knowledge will always inspire Indians,” HM Shah wrote on X.
Paying tribute to the “visionary” Pingali Venkayya, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said: “A distinguished scholar and polyglot, he dedicated his life to the service of the nation.”
In a post on X, Singh wrote: “His (Venkayya’s) remarkable contributions to India’s freedom struggle, education, and agricultural research reflected his unwavering commitment to nation-building and national progress. His enduring legacy continues to inspire generations of Indians.”
Referring to Venkayya as the “architect” of the Tricolour, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda also paid tribute.
“The dedicated warrior of the freedom struggle, revered Pingali Venkayya ji, gave shape to the form of the national flag, thereby providing India’s national identity with a new recognition. His invaluable contribution continues to fill the hearts of every Indian with the sentiments of patriotism, unity, and self-respect,” he wrote in a post on X.
Describing the Tricolour as a symbol of the nation’s “unity, integrity, and unity in diversity”, he added: “The inspiring life of revered Pingali Venkayya ji, who wove the nation into this unbreakable thread, and his unparalleled contribution will forever remain memorable.”
BJP chief Nitin Nabin also paid tribute to Pingali Venkayya through a post on X, while mentioning that his life and contributions will “forever remain a source of inspiration and guidance for generations to come”.
He further said that by giving a form to the Tricolour, Venkayya “bestowed new dignity upon India’s national identity”.
While paying tribute to the freedom fighter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on X: “May our Tricolour, a symbol of your farsightedness and patriotism, continue to instil the spirit of ‘One India-Excellent India’ in the heart of every Indian.”
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also said that Venkayya’s “inspiring life, imbued with patriotism and dedication, will forever continue to motivate every Indian towards selfless service to the nation”.
Echoing a similar view, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tribute to Pingali Venkayya.
“His unparalleled creation has woven India’s diversity into the fabric of a national spirit. The Tricolour today stands as a living emblem of the resolve, values, and devotion to the motherland of 140 crore fellow citizens,” she wrote on X.
