Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante staged a remarkable comeback at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston by defeating top seed Ben Shelton. After losing the first set narrowly, Tirante bounced back to clinch the next two sets, displaying a flawless serving performance by winning all 16 service games.
Shelton faced a challenging defeat, unable to progress past the round of 16 since his victory at the Dallas Open in February. In other matches in Houston, Argentina’s Roman Andres Burruchaga triumphed over third seed Learner Tien, and Tommy Paul secured a win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
In a thrilling match, second seed Frances Tiafoe overcame Alexei Popyrin in a three-hour battle, setting up an all-American semifinal against Paul. Additionally, Burruchaga is set to face Tirante in an all-Argentine matchup.

In Bucharest, play resumed after weather delays, with Spain’s Daniel Merida Aguilar, France’s Titouan Droguet, Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan, and Germany’s Daniel Altmaier securing wins. Marozsan and Merida Aguilar progressed to the semifinals, with Marozsan defeating Altmaier and Merida Aguilar overcoming Droguet before the latter retired.
