In a disturbing incident in Sultanganj, Bihar, armed criminals attacked the office of the Sultan Nagar Parishad (Municipal Council) during daylight hours on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a senior official and leaving another critically wounded. The Executive Officer, Krishna Bhushan, was killed on the spot, while the Municipal Council Chairman, Rajkumar Guddu, sustained severe gunshot wounds and is currently in critical condition at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur. Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred shortly after an advertising contract auction at the council office.
The attack took place as Krishna Bhushan and Chairman Guddu were in a discussion in Bhushan’s chamber around 4 PM when three masked assailants on a motorcycle entered the premises and opened fire without warning. The assailants swiftly carried out the attack, leaving staff and security personnel no time to react. Following the assault, the criminals fled the scene, creating chaos in the office. Both officials were promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where Krishna Bhushan was pronounced dead upon arrival, and Chairman Guddu was transferred to ICU in critical condition.
Initial investigations suggest a possible connection between the attack and the advertising tender process, with suspicions of a turf war or contractual dispute underlying the violence. Senior police officials, including the Bhagalpur SSP, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team rushed to the scene to investigate. Authorities have taken measures such as sealing district borders, conducting raids to locate the attackers, and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The brazen attack within a government office has raised concerns about law and order and security in the region, prompting a thorough police investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
