A 26-year-old youth from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was captured by the Army after he crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Identified as Mohammad Sajad, he entered the Indian side through the Gulpur area of the Krishna Ghati sector. Preliminary questioning revealed that he hailed from Polas village in the Abbaspur area of PoK and claimed to have inadvertently crossed the LoC.
Security agencies are currently verifying the individual’s statements and conducting further interrogation to understand the circumstances of his crossing. In cases of inadvertent LoC crossings in Jammu and Kashmir, detainees are promptly detained by the Indian Army or security forces. The Army, following strict military and humanitarian protocols, repatriates individuals back across the border after standard verification checks.
In such situations, individuals who accidentally cross the LoC are handled according to established humanitarian practices between India and Pakistan. After initial questioning by security agencies to confirm identity and rule out security threats, individuals are repatriated to Pakistan on humanitarian grounds. This process often takes place at formal border crossing points, ensuring dignified treatment with access to food, medical assistance, and safe living conditions.
