Two soldiers were injured when an Army truck overturned on the rain-soaked Maa flyover in Kolkata. The truck lost control, veered into the opposite lane, hit the railing, and flipped over. Police promptly arrived at the scene, rescued the soldiers, and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Kolkata Traffic Police reported that the truck, traveling from Science City to Park Circus, suddenly crossed the divider into the opposite lane of the flyover. The city’s wet and slippery roads, due to light to moderate rain, are suspected to have contributed to the accident. Investigators are looking into whether the wet conditions caused the driver to lose control.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata’s Alipore recorded rain starting at 4 a.m. in the city and surrounding areas. Authorities are probing whether the accident resulted from the wet road or involvement of another vehicle. The Army has also initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident.
Witnesses described the truck as speeding before the mishap, resulting in significant damage to its front. While motorcycle accidents on the Maa flyover are common, an incident involving a heavy vehicle like an Army truck has garnered attention. The traffic disruption caused by the accident was temporary, with traffic police swiftly clearing the flyover for normal movement.
