In Maharashtra, police have made a significant breakthrough by arresting a 30-year-old farm laborer, Rahul Raju Madavi, within 24 hours for the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Wardha district. The minor was found bludgeoned to death with a stone in her home, and the accused has confessed to the crime after rigorous interrogation.
Following a complaint by the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case under charges of murder and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A total of 14 special teams were formed by the police, and three suspects were detained initially. It is suspected that two other individuals may have assisted the accused, and they have also been taken into custody.
The victim, a fifth-grade student, belonged to a family from Yavatmal district living in Wardha for the past five years. The accused, a laborer who frequented the area, allegedly took advantage of the parents’ absence to commit the crime. The investigation is ongoing, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to handle the case promptly.
The incident has caused grief and outrage in the area, leading residents to demand swift justice and a fast-track trial for the accused. Police presence has been increased in the village to maintain peace and prevent further disturbances.
