None of the 14 individuals arrested in connection with the violence during a protest rally in Kolkata on July 24 were students, according to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The arrests were made based on CCTV footage and videos, revealing that the arrested individuals were actually fundamentalists aiming to disrupt peace in the city.
Chief Minister Adhikari stated that the arrested persons, who posed as students at the protest rally, had intentions diverging from the rally’s purpose. The violence on Friday may have been a reaction to recent government decisions, including investigations into unaffiliated madrasas and other policy implementations.
A total of 14 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence, with 70 persons identified as involved. The rally, organized by the Cockroach Janata Party and various Left parties’ student and youth wings, led to seven FIRs being filed, including one suo motu case by the city police.
