Aruna Mardi, the first wife of West Bengal BJP’s two-time Lok Sabha MP Khagen Murmu, switched to the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata. She was welcomed by Trinamool leaders Bratya Basu and Birbaha Hansda at the party’s office.
During the event, Basu highlighted Mardi’s political journey, mentioning her past associations with CPI-M and BJP. He expressed that Mardi, impressed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s work, decided to join Trinamool Congress.
Mardi, expressing her reasons for the move, stated her desire to work for neglected communities within Trinamool. She criticized BJP for lack of opportunities and emphasized her goal to serve the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women.
Birbaha Hansda, in a press conference, criticized BJP, urging tribal people not to support the party. Mardi, after joining Trinamool, emphasized her commitment to working for the people, inspired by Banerjee’s principles.
