Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd) has expressed worry about the challenges facing the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST). The premier technical institution has been embroiled in controversies related to administration and recruitment, leading to the resignation of Director Prof. Narendranath S. This situation has sparked protests and raised concerns about institutional governance and autonomy.
The Governor, in discussions with State Home Minister Mama Natung, focused on the law and order situation in the state, particularly the recent events at NERIST near Itanagar. State Education Minister P.D. Sona, along with Commissioner (Education) Amjad Tak, met with the Governor to address NERIST-related issues and explore solutions.
Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd) suggested establishing Common University Entrance Test (CUET) centers within Arunachal Pradesh to offer students more convenience and equal opportunities. He emphasized the importance of addressing challenges and enhancing academic, administrative, and infrastructural standards to meet the needs of students and faculty.
The Governor highlighted the need for prompt corrective actions and accelerated infrastructure development at the Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College in Papum Pare district. He stressed the college’s role as the only Government Law College in the state and its responsibility to become a model center of legal education. The aim is to produce competent legal professionals who can contribute effectively to the state’s legal system and governance.
Education Minister assured the Governor of ongoing corrective measures within the Department and was commended for implementing a rationalized teacher transfer system through the Teachers’ Registry Portal. This initiative is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and fair teacher deployment across the state, ultimately improving learning outcomes and the education system.
