Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (retired) commended the Assam Rifles for their dedicated service in safeguarding the international border with Myanmar and maintaining peace in crucial border areas. The Assam Rifles Director General, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, met with the Governor during the North Eastern Council plenary session in Shillong to discuss border management, security, and the welfare of border communities in Arunachal Pradesh. Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retd.) acknowledged the professionalism and relentless efforts of the Assam Rifles in ensuring national border security under challenging conditions.
The Governor praised the Assam Rifles for building strong relationships with local communities and contributing to the socio-economic development of remote regions through various programs. He emphasized the importance of constant vigilance and operational readiness in light of evolving security dynamics along the international border. Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retd.) highlighted the significance of timely completion of border fencing projects for national security and effective border management to prevent illegal activities across borders.
Expressing concerns over the pace of border fencing works, Governor Parnaik stressed the strategic importance of completing the project promptly and urged expediting the process. He emphasized the necessity of robust border infrastructure for national security and efficient border management. The Assam Rifles Director General assured the Governor of continued collaboration with the state administration and local communities to enhance border security while maintaining positive relations with the people.
Governor Parnaik visited the Eastern Air Command Headquarters in Shillong, where he appreciated the Eastern Air Command’s contributions to serving the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly those in remote areas. He commended the Indian Air Force for its essential roles in providing aid during emergencies, evacuations, and natural disasters. The Governor highlighted the strategic importance of Advance Landing Grounds (ALGs) in Arunachal Pradesh for national security, disaster response, connectivity, and regional development.
