Acting on a request from Tripura Police, the Arunachal Pradesh Police have initiated a search operation to locate and rescue 30 child labourers, as well as some adult workers who were allegedly taken forcibly to the state for work. The Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station in Tripura’s Unakoti district, Tapas Malakar, mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh Police have already found four of the missing labourers, with efforts ongoing to rescue the others.
Family members of the children and youths filed a complaint at the Kailashahar Police station, expressing concerns about the ill-treatment and harsh living conditions faced by their loved ones. The distressed families are eagerly awaiting the safe return of the missing individuals, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Tripura Labour, Social Welfare, and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy has reached out to Arunachal Pradesh’s authorities seeking their assistance in the rescue operation.
Minister Roy revealed that the child labourers, along with some adult workers, were taken from tea gardens in Unakoti district to Arunachal Pradesh with promises of fair wages and benefits, only to be deprived of their rights by the traffickers. Allegations of mistreatment and inhumane living conditions have further exacerbated the distress faced by the children. Urging prompt action, Roy emphasized the need for immediate rescue and repatriation of the labourers to Tripura.
