Aryaveer Dewan will be spearheading India’s representation at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships in Panzhihua, China, scheduled from May 20 to 24. Having clinched the boys’ U-17 title last year, Dewan now transitions to the U-19 category and holds the third seed position in the upcoming tournament. India is sending a robust 32-member squad, spanning categories from U-11 to U-19, aiming to build on its previous medal successes.
India had a commendable performance in the last championships, securing a total of seven medals, including two gold, two silver, and three bronze. Bolstered by a lineup of seeded players this year, the Indian contingent is determined to surpass its previous achievements on the Chinese soil. In the boys’ division, India boasts strong medal prospects across various age groups, with notable contenders like Abhyuday Arora, Amarya Bajaj, and Shresht Iyer showcasing their skills in different categories.
The U-19 boys’ category will witness the presence of other talented players alongside Dewan, including Gurveer Singh, Yusha Nafees, and Purav Rambhia, adding depth to India’s challenge. On the girls’ front, the team features promising talents such as Divyanshi Jain and Shanaya Parasrampuria, who are set to make their mark in the U-13 category. Additionally, Aadya Budhia and Anika Dubey are geared up to represent India in the U-15 and U-17 girls’ sections, respectively.
Completing the U-19 girls’ lineup are Unnati Tripathi, Eesha Shrivastava, Akanksha Gupta, and Vyomika Khandelwal, enhancing the squad’s overall strength. The Indian contingent will receive support from officials Mekhala Srivastava, Surbhi Misra, Avinash Bhavnani, and Saatvik Joshi during the prestigious event. With a blend of seasoned junior internationals and emerging talents, India aims to leave a lasting impression at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships, underscoring its commitment to advancing the sport at the continental level.
