World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka secured a spot in the Australian Open quarterfinals by defeating Victoria Mboko 6-1, 7-6 (1). This marks Sabalenka’s 13th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance, moving her closer to potentially winning the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup for the third time.

Sabalenka’s victory also saw her break a long-standing record by winning her 20th consecutive tiebreak at the Grand Slam level, surpassing Novak Djokovic’s previous record of 19 straight tiebreak wins. Despite facing some challenges in the match, including losing her serve twice in the second set, Sabalenka managed to maintain her composure and clinch the win in 1 hour and 26 minutes.

In the upcoming quarterfinal match, Sabalenka is set to play against 29th seed Iva Jovic. Jovic secured her spot in the final eight with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Yulia Putintseva. Sabalenka expressed her satisfaction with the win, acknowledging the tough competition she faced and her determination to succeed in the tournament.
