The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has advised people to avoid the Dikhow River in Sivasagar district as water levels remain dangerously high. The Central Water Commission reported that the river is flowing at 94.26 meters, 1.86 meters above the danger level of 92.40 meters.
Despite a slight decrease in water levels, the situation is still severe, prompting authorities to urge caution. The advisory, effective from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., warns residents to stay away from the river for safety reasons. The district administration and disaster management authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
While the river level is slightly lower than its previous highest flood level, it still poses a significant risk to low-lying areas. Residents, especially those in vulnerable locations, are advised against fishing, bathing, or approaching the river until conditions improve. Emergency response teams are on standby to address any potential rise in water levels or worsening conditions.
Authorities emphasize the importance of following official guidance, avoiding misinformation, and promptly reporting any flood-related emergencies to local authorities. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
