Jeev Milkha Singh, who debuted at Gleneagles in 2022, shot a remarkable 3-under 67 without any bogeys to kick off the Senior Open, placing him Tied-12th among prominent contenders. Meanwhile, Jyoti Randhawa, the other Indian participant, struggled with a 2-over 84, positioning him at T-84 after the initial round.
Australian golfer Cameron Percy seized the lead with a spectacular birdie streak during the first day, finishing one shot ahead. Taking advantage of favorable conditions at The Gleneagles Hotel, Percy capitalized on calm winds to secure seven under, including four consecutive birdies from the ninth hole in a stellar 63.
Frenchman Lionel Alexandre closely trailed Percy with a flawless 64, leading the pack by one shot over renowned figures like Ernie Els, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Tom Penrice Jr, and Pat Perez. Jeev, a seasoned player who also competes on the IGPL Tour in India, showcased a solid performance with birdies on the fifth, 14th, and 15th holes, positioning himself strongly in the competition.
Randhawa’s performance featured two birdies but was marred by five bogeys, resulting in a score of 74. Percy, despite not securing a senior victory since turning 50 in May 2024, demonstrated consistency with all 81 cuts made on the Champions Tour, hinting at a potential win in the near future based on his recent performances.
