Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has unveiled the latest installment of his series ‘Intezaar Shastra’, focusing on the sports sector and condemning the BJP-led state government for what he calls an “anti-sports mindset.” Gehlot specifically pointed out the delayed construction of the proposed international cricket stadium in Chomp village near Jaipur, which was supposed to be the world’s third-largest stadium with a seating capacity of 75,000.
In the video shared from his X handle, Gehlot highlighted that the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) lacked its own stadium and had initiated plans to construct one in Chomp village near Jaipur. The foundation stone for the project was laid on February 5, 2022, during the Congress government, with a clear timeline for completion in two phases. Despite the initial plan to finish the first phase, accommodating 45,000 spectators, within 24 months, Gehlot alleged that after 36 months, there has been no visible progress, leaving the project incomplete.
Gehlot criticized the BJP government for what he perceives as negligence, stating that the stalled construction of the cricket stadium reflects an anti-sports attitude that is damaging Rajasthan’s reputation. The project was envisioned to enhance the state’s prestige, improve sports infrastructure, and provide opportunities for athletes. Despite significant investments, Gehlot expressed disappointment that the dreams of sportspersons have been sidelined due to delays and inaction.
The former Chief Minister urged the government to prioritize athletes over political differences and ensure the completion of crucial sports infrastructure projects. Gehlot’s ‘Intezaar Shastra’ series has been shedding light on delays and alleged inaction by the current government, with the latest chapter focusing on sports infrastructure and governance.
