Former Indian off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has raised worries about Chennai Super Kings’ captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s current struggles with the bat, attributing it to immense pressure and a cluttered mindset. Gaikwad, known for his successful performances in domestic and franchise cricket, has faced a dip in form, managing only 82 runs in six matches, with a top score of 28. In a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was dismissed for 19 runs off 13 balls.
Ashwin, analyzing Gaikwad’s recent performance, highlighted that the match situation offered an ideal opportunity for Gaikwad to settle in, especially with a strong start from his batting partner Ayush Mhatre. Despite the favorable conditions, Ashwin observed that Gaikwad seemed burdened by pressure and displayed signs of a cluttered mindset. The veteran spinner emphasized the importance for Gaikwad to capitalize on such situations to regain form.
In the game, Sunrisers Hyderabad set a target of 194/9, with Anshul Kamboj and Jamie Overton claiming three wickets each for Chennai Super Kings. While Mhatre played a brisk 30 off 13 balls to lead CSK’s chase, contributions from other players like Matthew Short, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shivam Dube were not enough as CSK fell short, finishing at 184/8.
