Asian Games Team Dressage gold medallist Anush Agarwalla has expressed concern over being named a reserve for the upcoming Asian Games. Despite being India’s top-ranked dressage rider and achieving notable international rankings, Agarwalla finds the decision surprising and questions the selection criteria applied.
Agarwalla, who hails from Kolkata and was part of the gold-winning team at the 2022 Asian Games, has filed a petition against the Equestrian Federation of India and the Indian Olympic Association. He seeks transparency in the selection process and emphasizes the need to avoid conflicts of interest.
The talented equestrian athlete highlights his significant contributions to Indian equestrian sports, including winning historic medals and representing India at prestigious events like the Asian Games and the Paris Olympics. Agarwalla stresses the importance of clarity in the selection process for all athletes, especially when performance and rankings support their inclusion.
In a plea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Agarwalla urges a review of the selection decision to uphold merit, transparency, and sporting excellence in athlete selection. While pursuing legal remedies for transparency in the system, he reaffirms his dedication to training, competing, and representing India with utmost commitment.
