Assam Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora stated that discussions between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are ongoing to resolve remaining issues along their inter-state boundary. Progress has been made in settling disputed areas, with both states aiming to address unresolved matters through dialogue and cooperation. Bora emphasized the importance of collective efforts in development and administration of border areas for the benefit of residents.
The two states have already made advancements in defusing disputes and are committed to moving forward positively. They are exploring new avenues of cooperation while working on pending matters. Efforts to settle the border dispute have been ongoing, with a historic Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2023 to resolve disputes in identified contested areas.
The border dispute originates from differing interpretations of the boundary demarcated after the notification of the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA), which later became Arunachal Pradesh. Tensions among communities in border regions have arisen due to competing territorial claims over the years. Both state governments have praised the settlement process as a model for resolving inter-state disputes through dialogue rather than litigation.
Further discussions will be held to address remaining issues, with optimism for a cooperative resolution between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
