Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Assam and Meghalaya have agreed to speed up the boundary demarcation process to resolve their long-standing inter-state boundary issue. This decision followed a meeting between Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati. The two leaders discussed various legacy issues and ways to enhance cooperation between the neighboring states.
Sarma expressed satisfaction with the productive meeting and highlighted the progress made on addressing longstanding concerns. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, he mentioned that both states are working towards a lasting solution to the boundary matter. Additionally, they are strengthening ties in line with the ethos of “Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat” to promote growth in the Northeast region.
The collaboration between Assam and Meghalaya extends to various sectors aimed at unlocking the development potential of the entire northeastern region. The meeting also delved into areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity, trade, and regional growth initiatives. The ongoing efforts signify a positive step towards resolving the boundary dispute that has persisted since Meghalaya’s formation in 1972.
