The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi of not attending Republic Day celebrations. BJP Assam posted on social media expressing concern over Gogoi’s absence on this significant national day. State Minister Pijush Hazarika also claimed that sources within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee confirmed Gogoi’s absence at the Republic Day event in Guwahati.
The BJP’s criticism of Gogoi revolves around alleged connections with Pakistan, a matter that has been a focal point in Assam’s political discussions. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other BJP leaders have raised concerns about Gogoi’s purported links with Pakistan, questioning his political intentions and credibility. In response, Gogoi and the Congress have consistently denied these allegations, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated attempts to divert attention from governance issues.
The ongoing verbal sparring between the BJP and Congress in Assam has intensified, with the Republic Day incident being the latest episode in the political tussle. The BJP’s strategy appears to be keeping the spotlight on Gogoi, a prominent face of the Congress in Assam. This controversy underscores the heightened political tensions in the state, particularly regarding national security and foreign policy stances of key leaders like Gogoi.
