Assam BJP President and Lok Sabha member Dilip Saikia lauded the NDA’s performance in Assam as a “historic mandate,” emphasizing the unprecedented support from the people. He highlighted that the initial vote count trends showcase the voters’ trust in the BJP government’s developmental initiatives led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Saikia stated that the electorate across Assam has decisively voted for continuity, stability, and the party’s governance approach.

The BJP leader attributed the overwhelming voter response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, acknowledging his efforts to prioritize Assam and the Northeast in national development. He mentioned that the Prime Minister’s focus on infrastructure, connectivity, and inclusive growth has significantly bolstered the BJP’s popularity among the masses. Saikia underlined that the magnitude of this victory will be etched in history, signaling a clear message that the people of Assam desire the BJP to continue its developmental agenda for the state’s progress.

Counting of votes is currently ongoing in Assam under stringent security measures, with clearer trends expected to emerge later in the day. The BJP-led NDA is leading in 99 Assembly seats, while the Congress-led opposition alliance is ahead in 24 constituencies in the initial rounds of counting for the Assembly elections. The elections, held on April 9, witnessed an impressive voter turnout of 85.96% from a voter base exceeding 2.50 crore individuals.
