Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia expressed his disappointment over Nandita Gorlosa’s decision to join the Congress after being denied a ticket by the BJP. Saikia mentioned that he had assured Gorlosa a ministerial berth before the 2021 Assembly elections, which was fulfilled when she became a minister in the cabinet.
Due to changed circumstances, the BJP could not offer Gorlosa a ticket this time, leading to her defection. Saikia emphasized that he had personally tried to persuade her to stay within the party, highlighting his desire to retain all members within the BJP family.
In response to Gorlosa’s move, the Congress party announced her candidature for the Haflong constituency, replacing their earlier nominee. Gorlosa’s decision to switch parties is seen as a significant political development in the Dima Hasao district, where she holds a strong support base.
The Congress party welcomed Gorlosa, praising her consistent advocacy for district issues and her unwavering political stance. They criticized the BJP leadership for not aligning with the interests of indigenous tribal communities by denying Gorlosa a ticket.
