Atul Bora, a senior Assam Cabinet Minister and president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), highlighted that addressing Assam’s long-standing border disputes with neighboring northeastern states is a key focus of the BJP-led NDA government in the state. The government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made significant strides in resolving inter-state boundary issues through dialogue and cooperation with neighboring states. This proactive approach aims to alleviate the longstanding tensions and uncertainties faced by residents in affected border areas.
Assam has grappled with border-related challenges for years, leading to hardships for its people. Since assuming office, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has actively engaged in discussions with other northeastern Chief Ministers to advocate for resolving disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding. As a result, Assam has made substantial progress in settling border disputes with neighboring states, including reaching significant agreements with Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya on disputed territories.
The AGP leader noted ongoing discussions with Mizoram and Nagaland to address border issues and incidents in sensitive regions. While acknowledging the complexity of the Nagaland dispute, particularly with matters pending in the Supreme Court, Bora expressed optimism that continued dialogue and cooperation between states will lead to peaceful resolutions. He emphasized the belief that through collaborative efforts, solutions can be reached, pointing to the progress made and the hope for further advancements in the future.
Bora also highlighted the trust placed by the people of Assam in the NDA government, affirming the alliance’s commitment to fulfilling public expectations over the next five years. The government’s agenda includes a focus on development, safeguarding Assam’s interests, and implementing welfare measures across various sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.
