Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a vigorous crackdown on quack doctors to combat social issues, emphasizing the protection of the healthcare system’s integrity. The government’s focus is on eradicating illegal practices that pose risks to society. Sarma expressed determination to eliminate all societal evils, following successful actions against drug syndicates and child marriage offenders.
Highlighting progress in the fight against fake medical practitioners, Sarma used the hashtag #AssamAgainstQuacks to showcase the joint efforts of state police and health authorities. Since 2025, authorities have filed 59 cases against alleged quack doctors in Assam. The crackdown has led to the arrest of 62 individuals posing as fake doctors, underscoring the government’s heightened measures against unauthorized medical activities.
The ongoing campaign targets individuals masquerading as qualified medical professionals without proper credentials, endangering patients with illegal and unsafe treatments. This initiative aligns with the broader law enforcement drives initiated by the Assam government in recent years. Previous operations targeted drug trafficking, illegal narcotics trade, and child marriage, with Sarma emphasizing the necessity of stringent enforcement for public safety and upholding the rule of law.
Assuring continued actions against fake doctors, officials warn of strict legal consequences for those practicing medicine without valid qualifications or licenses. The government urges the public to consult only registered medical practitioners and report any suspicions of fraudulent medical practices. Public cooperation is deemed crucial in eradicating quackery and maintaining healthcare standards in Assam.
