Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that Assam has been experiencing a remarkable economic growth rate of 12-13% for the past seven to eight years, surpassing the national average. He mentioned at the Republic TV Summit that Assam is on track to become a significant semiconductor manufacturing hub in India, attributing this growth to continuous investments, infrastructure development, and industrial progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Sarma pointed out the upcoming Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, which is set to commence chip exports later this year. The plant is expected to export approximately 48 million chips daily from Guwahati to global markets starting November.
The Chief Minister disclosed that international buyers have already expressed keen interest in the products to be produced at the facility. Additionally, he revealed that the state government has finalized agreements for two more substantial semiconductor projects in Assam, aiming to further solidify the state’s position in India’s electronics and semiconductor industry.
Sarma also mentioned Assam’s progress towards becoming a power-surplus state in the next three to four years, emphasizing the state’s focus on green energy and power generation. Furthermore, he announced that Guwahati will host two significant meetings in July, underscoring Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to the Northeast’s development and positioning it at the core of India’s growth narrative.
