Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced the Provincialisation Management System (PMS) portal to address the provincialisation of venture educational institutions and their staff. The digital platform, unveiled at Lok Sewa Bhawan, aims to streamline applications from non-provincialised schools and colleges under the Assam Education Act. This initiative is a significant step towards resolving long-standing issues with transparency.
Sarma emphasized the portal’s role in creating a centralized database of venture institutions and their workforce, aiming to eliminate ambiguity and irregularities in the provincialisation process. He highlighted the government’s efforts in provincialising over 50,000 teachers since 2011, with the PMS launch marking a comprehensive phase covering various educational levels.
Acknowledging that not all applicants may meet the criteria, Sarma announced the ‘Gurudakshina’ scheme in the recent Budget session to provide financial support to ineligible individuals. Additionally, a preferential marking system will assist such staff in pursuing other government job opportunities. The Chief Minister outlined strict eligibility criteria, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders for a successful implementation.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and other officials attended the launch event, signaling a strategic move to garner support from teachers ahead of key political events in the state.
