Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the implementation of the Olympic Values Education Programme in over 40,000 schools across the state. The program aims to instill discipline, teamwork, and life skills in students alongside academic excellence.
Sarma emphasized the importance of integrating Olympic values into the education system to nurture a generation capable of excelling both academically and in other aspects of life. The initiative, spanning all 35 districts of Assam, focuses on promoting the core values of the Olympic movement among schoolchildren.
The Olympic Values Education Programme seeks to encourage healthy lifestyles, enhance academic focus, promote social inclusion, and develop essential life skills among students. By equipping educators with tools for values-based learning, the program aims to create a holistic educational environment in schools.
Officials believe that exposure to Olympic ideals such as excellence, friendship, respect, perseverance, and teamwork can help students cultivate leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility. The program aligns with the state government’s vision of holistic education, emphasizing character-building alongside academic success.
Integrating values-based education into school curricula is expected to contribute to the overall development of young learners in Assam. The International Olympic Committee has globally promoted the Olympic Values Education Programme as a means to inspire youth through sports and education.
The large-scale implementation of the initiative in Assam is anticipated to enhance the state’s educational environment, promoting physical activity, social cohesion, and personal growth among students. Sarma highlighted that the program reflects Assam’s dedication to preparing future generations for success through a combination of academic learning and values-driven education.
