Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently conducted a review of key power sector projects involving Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited, and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited. The focus of the meeting was to strengthen Assam’s power infrastructure to ensure a continuous electricity supply to meet the state’s increasing energy needs.
During the review, the Chief Minister evaluated the current peak power demand situation and examined the existing supply arrangements throughout the state. He urged officials from the three power utilities to accelerate the progress of ongoing projects related to thermal, solar, and hydroelectric power generation, as well as the development of transmission and grid infrastructure.
Officials present at the meeting provided updates to the Chief Minister on various projects underway in Assam, highlighting efforts to enhance generation capacity, modernize transmission systems, and reduce transmission and distribution losses. Special attention was given to improving power availability during peak consumption periods, especially in rapidly growing urban centers and industrial zones.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely project completion to prevent delays in strengthening the state’s energy network. This review comes at a time when Assam is experiencing a steady increase in electricity consumption due to urbanization, industrial growth, and higher domestic demand. The government is also prioritizing the expansion of renewable energy generation as part of its strategy to ensure a sustainable and dependable power supply.
To expedite project execution and optimize resource utilization, the Chief Minister instructed relevant departments to maintain close coordination and ensure regular monitoring of ongoing works to meet targets within set timelines. Over the past few years, the Assam government has initiated various measures to enhance electricity connectivity and infrastructure in urban and rural areas. The ongoing projects by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited, and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited are expected to significantly boost the state’s generation, transmission, and distribution capacities in the near future.
