Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed significant digital governance and technology plans, including launching Assam’s own Earth observation satellite, “AssamSAT,” and investing Rs 100 crore in aerospace component manufacturing. This announcement came after the presentation of the 2026-27 Assam Budget by Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah in the Assembly. Sarma emphasized the state’s focus on building a technology-driven economy by investing in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.
One of the key highlights is the introduction of AssamSAT, set to be India’s first state-owned Earth observation satellite. This satellite is anticipated to enhance governance by providing real-time data for various sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, urban planning, and infrastructure development. The government is also set to roll out an AI-powered version of “Sewa Setu” to enhance citizen services, ensuring quicker and more transparent public service delivery.
Moreover, the budget outlines plans to establish an aerospace components manufacturing ecosystem with a Rs 100 crore investment, aiming to attract investments, create skilled job opportunities, and position Assam as a burgeoning aerospace hub. The digital initiatives proposed by the Chief Minister aim to enhance governance efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centric services while fostering growth in emerging technology sectors.
Sarma also highlighted plans to expand e-Courts and bolster digital justice infrastructure to streamline judicial services and case management through technology-driven solutions. The government aims to integrate digital governance platforms like e-HRMIS and IFMIS to enhance human resource management, financial administration, and public expenditure efficiency across various departments. These initiatives align with the government’s vision to transform Assam into an innovation-driven, digitally empowered economy, attracting investments in advanced industries and providing smarter governance to its citizens.
