Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress, claiming it has strayed from its ideological path and fallen under divisive influences. Sarma accused the Congress of promoting what he termed as “Bangladeshi Muslim” politics, asserting it does not align with Assam’s interests.
Sarma alleged that certain Congress leaders were fostering divisive agendas, likening them to controversial figure Rakibul Hussain. He further criticized the party for engaging in activities that he deemed contrary to Assam’s cultural values.
The Chief Minister highlighted incidents from recent Congress meetings in the Sribhumi–Hailakandi region, insinuating objectionable behavior without specifying details. Additionally, Sarma claimed that during a recent Congress gathering, party president in Assam Gaurav Gogoi was reportedly threatened by two party members.
Sarma labeled Gogoi a “parachute leader,” suggesting a lack of grassroots connection in Assam. He expressed relief at not becoming Chief Minister under the Congress, citing the party’s current direction as validation for his switch to the BJP.
Accusing the Congress of jeopardizing Assam’s security, identity, and social harmony for political motives, Sarma reiterated the BJP government’s commitment to safeguarding indigenous interests and promoting peace and development.
