Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the allocation of portfolios among members of the Council of Ministers, retaining key departments like Home, Power, and Public Works. The distribution aims to ensure effective governance and boost the state’s development agenda. Sarma will oversee Home, Political Affairs, Power, Public Works Department (Buildings and National Highways), and more.
Jayanta Mallabaruah has been given Finance, Environment and Forest, and Mines and Minerals departments. Ashok Singhal will handle Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education and Research. Ranoj Pegu retains oversight of School Education, Higher Education, Tribal Affairs, and Information Technology.
Pijush Hazarika is assigned Agriculture, Irrigation, and Parliamentary Affairs. Bimal Borah will manage Cultural Affairs, Industries, Commerce, and Act East Policy Affairs. Biswajit Daimary’s responsibilities include Handloom, Textiles, Sports, and Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture.
Kaushik Rai will look after Food, Public Distribution, Housing, and Cooperation. Keshab Mahanta is tasked with Revenue, Disaster Management, Science, and General Administration. Krishnendu Paul has been given Public Health Engineering, Hill Areas, and Barak Valley Development.
Nilima Devi will oversee Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Fishery departments. Ashwini Ray Sarkar is responsible for Social Justice, Soil Conservation, and Welfare of Minorities. Susanta Borgohain has received Water Resources and Judicial portfolios.
Sarma has wished success to all ministers and expressed confidence in their collective efforts to serve the people of Assam. The portfolio allocation follows a detailed review of administrative needs and ministerial strengths. The Assam Cabinet, with 16 ministers, has two vacant positions after recent expansions.
