Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrest of individuals involved in the vandalism at St. Mary’s English School in Panigaon, Nalbari district. The state government is dedicated to upholding peace, communal harmony, and ensuring safety across Assam. The miscreants were apprehended promptly, and the government emphasizes a zero-tolerance stance on disrupting communal harmony.
The incident occurred when a group entered the school premises and damaged Christmas decorations. The school’s Principal reported the unlawful entry and destruction of property, including setting fire to Christmas-related items. The Belsor Police Station initiated a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and an investigation is underway with Sub-Inspector Chanakya Das leading the probe.
Four individuals, including members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The accused, residents of Nalbari district, allegedly entered the school, vandalized decorations, and incited tension by chanting slogans. Authorities assure that the situation is under control, and stringent legal measures will be taken against the perpetrators.
