Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies hold a strong position in 103 out of 126 Assembly seats set for upcoming polls. Sarma emphasized that the opposition parties have minimal presence in these seats, with a focus on minority-dominated constituencies. He highlighted the BJP’s organizational strength and performance, positioning the party well in the upcoming elections.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the BJP, with 63 current MLAs, plans to introduce around 40 new faces as candidates for the Assembly polls. He also indicated progress in seat-sharing discussions with alliance partners, including the Asom Gana Parishad and other regional parties. Sarma expressed confidence in the unity and preparedness of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Assam.
Sarma further noted that the final decision on seat-sharing arrangements among alliance partners is expected to be finalized by mid-March. He reiterated the government’s focus on development, welfare schemes, and governance, which have garnered support for the BJP. As the state gears up for Assembly elections, political activities have intensified, with parties engaging in preparations and alliance negotiations.
