Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated in the Assembly that the BJP-led alliance has gained significant electoral support among tea tribe communities and secured victories in reserved constituencies across Assam. Sarma highlighted that the BJP, along with allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), has emerged victorious in most constituencies dominated by tea garden communities. He emphasized the trust shown by tea garden workers and marginalized groups in the government’s welfare initiatives and development plans.
Sarma also mentioned the alliance’s success in securing a strong presence in Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved constituencies in Assam, with almost all SC seats won by the BJP, BPF, and AGP. The Chief Minister attributed this electoral triumph to the effective implementation of welfare programs and policies that have directly benefited the grassroots level, particularly among Economically Weaker Sections. He underscored the impact of schemes related to housing, healthcare, education, financial aid, and job opportunities in solidifying support from various marginalized sections.
Furthermore, Sarma highlighted the political outreach efforts of the BJP-led coalition towards historically neglected communities in Assam, aiming to address their long-standing grievances and concerns. While the ruling alliance celebrated its electoral success, opposition parties criticized the politicization of welfare schemes and the use of identity-based narratives for political advantage. Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to targeted welfare programs for tea garden workers, including support for women, healthcare provisions, and educational assistance, as part of its broader engagement with marginalized communities in the state.
The BJP-led alliance secured a total of 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly, marking a significant victory over the opposition. In contrast, the Congress party only managed to secure 19 seats, its lowest tally in the state’s history.
