Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the state government’s initiatives to enhance healthcare infrastructure and medical education. He stated that the ongoing transformation aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and promote a healthier future for the people of Assam.
CM Sarma highlighted the significant expansion of medical infrastructure in Assam, with the construction of multiple medical colleges and hospitals in various districts. Currently, 11 new medical college campuses are being built with an investment of Rs 8,233 crore, five of which are expected to be operational by 2026.
The government’s focus is to ensure that every district in Assam benefits from improved healthcare facilities and educational opportunities. This expansion is intended to address regional healthcare disparities and enhance the state’s readiness to tackle future health challenges effectively.
The Chief Minister stressed that these efforts will lead to the development of a new generation of healthcare professionals, reducing the state’s reliance on other regions for specialized medical services and education. Assam has witnessed significant growth in medical education infrastructure, with a strategic plan to establish medical colleges in almost every district.
The state’s healthcare landscape is further bolstered by key facilities like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Guwahati and various government medical colleges, enhancing tertiary healthcare services. These investments are crucial in ensuring affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare services for the people of Assam, supporting long-term socio-economic progress.
