Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concern over the grave flood conditions in the state, revealing that the situation is more critical than reported. Many villages are isolated, with ongoing rescue efforts and the discovery of new casualties. Despite numerous people seeking refuge in relief camps, others remain stranded in inundated areas yet to be reached by aid teams.
Sarma emphasized the extensive impact of the floods, noting submerged villages where assistance has not yet arrived. He assured that a collaborative effort involving the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local authorities is underway to assist those in need. The Chief Minister acknowledged the immense losses suffered by flood victims, including homes, livestock, and essential documents.
Acknowledging the challenges faced, Sarma pledged unwavering support to the affected communities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing aid. He mentioned instances of individuals trapped in inaccessible locations, highlighting the difficulties in evacuating patients due to limited access. Despite efforts, adverse weather conditions have hindered rescue operations in certain areas.
Sarma also addressed the recent cloudburst in Nagaland, underscoring the swift communication from the neighboring state. He stressed the need for continued vigilance and cautioned that the actual devastation caused by the floods surpasses official reports. The government plans to issue regular flood updates to keep the public informed about the evolving situation.
