Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss Assam’s future growth plans, infrastructure development, and economic roadmap. The meeting, held at the Finance Minister’s official residence, emphasized enhancing cooperation between the Centre and the state to boost developmental initiatives and transform Assam into a key economic hub in the Northeast.

During the discussions, Chief Minister Sarma expressed appreciation for the Union government’s consistent support to Assam over the years. He recognized the contributions of the Union Finance Ministry and central agencies in facilitating infrastructure projects, investment promotion, welfare schemes, and financial aid for the state. Sarma also thanked Finance Minister Sitharaman for the continuous support extended to Assam and highlighted key priorities for the state’s development in the upcoming years.

The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Dwivedi, covered various aspects related to Assam’s economic growth, modernization of infrastructure, industrial progress, and investment opportunities. Focus was also placed on increasing financial assistance for ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, promoting employment, and bolstering public infrastructure throughout the state.

Assam has made significant strides in sectors like transportation, healthcare, education, tourism, energy, and digital infrastructure in recent years. The state government is actively working to attract both domestic and international investments, emphasizing ease of doing business and industrial expansion. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted Assam’s potential in emerging sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing, green energy, logistics, tourism, and technology-driven industries.

The state is keen on expanding connectivity projects and positioning itself as a key gateway to Southeast Asia under the ‘Act East Policy’ of the Indian government. The meeting stressed the importance of close coordination between the Centre and the Assam government to implement developmental programs and sustain the economic transformation momentum in the state. Continued support from the Union government is deemed essential for Assam’s long-term development goals and ensuring inclusive growth across urban and rural areas.

The discussions are seen as part of Assam’s broader initiatives to prepare for the next phase of economic expansion and infrastructure-led development, while fostering collaboration with the Centre to create more opportunities for the state’s residents.
